Homeshooling Families

This is my first blog so I hope it ends up where I have intended and not out in Cyberspace. Just want to say an AMEN to the homeschooling families out there. Will you add learning experiences to your summer vacation. Even though my homeschooling mission is over, I never tire of learning. In addition to running the business with Jere, I am brushing up on my Spanish, studying German, and working through two Adobe photography classroom books.
How about you. Do your summer activities give you opportunities to learn?

  1. Hi Sandy,
It was nice to meet you last night at the Ricky Skaggs concert at the Ryman. My family and I (Wimberley Bluegrass Band) appreciate you and Jere taking the time to chat with us and even give us a few pointers.

I saw your blog here and we, too, homeschool. We have been blessed to have the opportunity to travel through several states each summer in our small motorhome. This always provides plenty of opportunities to learn. History, nature, and music are just a few of the things we always learn about on our family vacations.
By the time we get home, we have just a few weeks to play our music at fairs and such, and then it is time to start planning for the new school year.

We do appreciate the testimony and ministry that you share with the Skaggs Family Records and, again, it was very nice to meet you.

  2. Hi Sandy,

My daughters directed me to your site and I was pleased to see a homeschool comment on here. I homeschool my bunch, though your Spanish, German and Adobe studies make me feel like a slacker. I'm just trying to make tomatoes grow upside down in buckets this year. Oh, and learn to play mandolin well enough so my kids don't kick me out of their band.

We hope to catch you in Durango in November. If there is an opportunity, I have a 15yo daughter who would like to see if Cia would sign her banjo.

  3. Well, rats. Never mind on the above post. We can't make it in November but we are making plans to catch you in Steamboat Springs. Looking forward to it!

  4. I just saw your family perform on Song of the Mountains. You are all so inspiring! I have six little ones, ages seven and under, who have begun their musical experiences. My seven year-old on the piano, my four year-old triplets on the violins and viola, and my three year-old on the cello. How and when would you recommend that I get them started on Bluegrass? I also homeschool, which has been a great experience for our family and has opened up more time for other pursuits. Thanks for sharing your amazing talents and giving the rest of us something to aspire to with our own families!

  5. Two of our sons and I saw you last week in Eugene, OR. We loved the music. Could we ask for more gospel? We love the lyrics to Black & White, & the King as a Babe Comes Down. We bought the latest cd there but my 12 year old was bothered by the lyrics of many of the 'lost love' songs. I know that's just country style, but what about songs about enduring love as in a lifetime marriage? (like yours!) Broken hearts DO heal with Christ's love. By the way, we've homeschooled all 6 of ours as well, from age 23 down to the 5 year old--what a great adventure. And, like you we had one child pass on before us. He'd be 14 now.
Thanks again for taking time to speak with us after the concert. Bless you all.
